For many years Historians and other academic purists have stuck religiously to the monograph form, labelling anything which falls outside of the established academic domain, at best, irrelevant, and at worst ‘mere fiction’. This blog aims to challenge such a narrow outlook by finding ways to make South African and African history more accessible to the 21st century reader (that’s you).

Like many young bloggers, I am fascinated by contemporary debates surrounding gender, race and identity. This blog, while it will certainly include a variety of personal anecdotes and opinions on these topics, is ultimately about providing context and a solid historical background to such debates.
